MERS-TM has many features that ensure security of web-based data, such as firewall protection and restricted access. Because data that is entered into the central database becomes anonymous, queries made to the central database yield summarized information such as a frequency distribution. A query is essentially a question you ask the database in order to find specific information. In MERS-TM, the results of queries can be presented as frequency distribution, trend charts, text reports, or as a list of events that have a set of common characteristics.
