Intentional violation of safe practices is a disciplinary standard that allows an organization to compare the behavior of its employees against rules and procedures that have been created to maintain safety within the system.

For example, if a rule requires a nurse to confirm the identity of the patient through reading the wristband before administering medication, then disciplinary action may be allowed when a nurse has intentionally chosen to ignore the safe practice.
